The questions used to explore attitudes toward skin color among Hispanic populations

As men assign greater importance to how a woman looks rather than her personal qualities in early dating contexts, skin color is an important tool in the evaluation of women of color’s attractiveness. While there is a large body of psychological research examining this in Black and Asian populations, understandings of American Hispanic women’s experiences are limited. Drawing upon interdisciplinary research, this presentation explores the values given to skin color, and its relevance to Hispanic college women in Miami's dating experiences and physical attractiveness beliefs.
