Studying Race Historically

What is it about?

The author reviews different conceptual approaches to the study of race in historical contexts and recommends using an approach, critical-realism, that bridges Critical Race Theory and identity realism. Such an approach allows for the situating of race as a social construct with no biological foundation in the social context of pervasive racism while recognizing that racial classifications have real-life consequences for individuals and groups in a racist society.
