What is it about?
Participants in our online U.S.-based sample of adults frequently endorse the belief that the human species exists for a purpose—for example, that humans exist to reproduce or to care for the environment. We find evidence of a relationship between their belief in purpose and moral condemnation of individuals who fail to fulfill their purpose—for example, people who cannot or choose not to reproduce.
