What is it about?

A job loss, a separation, the death of a loved one - all these events can impact our well-being. However, not all people react in the same way to these events. In this study, we examined whether differences in the experience of these events can explain why people's well-being changes differently after these events. For example, does the effect of an separation depend on whether the separation was expected, on who initiated the separation, or on the relationship duration?

Why is it important?

Understanding why people differ in their reaction to negative events is important to know who might need help (e.g., social support, therapy) after experiencing events such as job loss or separation.
