What is it about?

When we experience stressful situations, our body's stress response system is activated. This system helps us to adapt and respond to stress in the short term, but if it is activated for a long time, it has negative effects on our mental and physical health, such as memory deficits and mental illnesses like anxiety and depression. To treat these problems, anxiolytic and antipressant drugs often used, but they can cause side effects. In this study, we investigated how different drugs affect mice that had been exposed to stress. The results showed that stress did not affect the mice's ability to learn, but it did impair aversive memory. Fluoxetine reversed this memory deficit. The anxiolytic drug diazepam and buspirone ( reduced anxiety, while mirtazapine had a sedative effect. However, DZP impaired learning.

Why is it important?

Our findings suggest that the fluoxetine may be helpful in reversing memory problems caused by stress, and that different drugs have different effects on anxiety and aversive learning.

Perspectives

I hope this study helps from, a pharmacological perspective, new investigations about the use of anxiolytic and antidepresant drugs to treat memory deficits.
