This paper is about some of the challenges that using anti-depressant medications can pose to masculinity, agency and identity in men. It analyses interview transcripts of 6 men discussing their experiences with these medications.

Why is it important?

Men’s conflicts around antidepressant use can be understood in the light of masculine norms, and treatment models designed to work with and around these norms could improve treatment outcomes for depression in male clients.
