What is it about?
We show that higher shell calcification influences the geochemical composition in planktonic foraminiferal shells. This is likely linked to a change in depth habitat when the shell becomes heavier.

Why is it important?
This influence adds a level of bias to geochemical analyses, which can disturb palaeoenvironmental reconstructions based on them.
Perspectives
This influence must be included in future palaeoclimate and palaeoenvironment modelling.
