What is it about?

Our paper offers the closest possible seismological insight into the focal mechanism of Mw5.7 event and, in particular, into its earthquake nucleation. The work builds on a unique dataset and careful modeling. We use the rich high-quality region broadband seismograms from epicentral area. Our waveform modeling includes the latest techniques for the moment-tensor uncertainty assessment.

Why is it important?

Our findings provide typical features of earthquakes occurred in injection region in earthquake nucleation, and also point to a shallow strike-slip active fault not yet mapped in the region, thus important for focal mechanism and future hazard assessment in this region.

Perspectives

Shallow active strike‐slip faulting, not yet mapped in the region, is a new feature, important for future hazard assessment.
