What is it about?

Embitterment, especially the chronic state of embitterment is a weakening condition in terms of human relationships, work capacity, and psychological functioning. An embittered mind is overwhelmed of intrusive thoughts and feelings of being treated unjust and is constantly thinking of the causing event. I that respect it is similar to a posttraumatic state although the event has not to be life threatening. In this paper we postulate a reliable measure for this condition.

Why is it important?

A measure of embitterment is a diagnostic tool but more importantly, it also helps a person to gain insight of what is going on.

Perspectives

Embitterment is more than just frustration, anger, and helplessness. Experienced unjustice may not only lead to depressive states but also turn into anger and revenge. An embittered mind is constantly occupied with intrsuive thoughts, not only memories but also phantasies how to retaliate against the persons who are seen responsible.
