What is it about?
Work engagement is a positive state of mind characterized by feelings of vigor, dedications, and absorption. We have shown how this experience can fluctuate from a moment to moment basis during a working day. We were able to capture the momentary fluctuations in engagement using a smartphone device that sends push messages to employees at random times during a working day. In this paper, we reveal that work engagement levels are high when employees face moments that are resourceful (e.g. having feedback, autonomy). Conversely, work engagement levels are low when employees face demanding work situations (e.g. role conflict). Also, those moments of high work engagement are associated with high-performance during those moments as well.
