What is it about?

Quantum Dots are powerful nano structures that can act as sources of single photons, fundamental cornerstones for the development of all-on-chip quantum devices for quantum communication and quantum computation. In this work we demonstrated emission at two different wavelengths (two-colors) from the same single quantum dot.

Why is it important?

This result allowed to us to propose the simultaneous detection of two-colour, single-photon emission as a method to design a NAND logic gate function - one of the basic building block for quantum computation logic circuits

Perspectives

This work demonstrated that InAs quantum dots can indeed be considered as effective single photon sources for quantum computation. A fundamental advantage of epitaxial InAs/GaAs QDs is that they can be easily integrated in photonics and electronic circuits by using standard semiconductor chip manufacturing.
