What is it about?

Development of a robust method using liquid chromatography - mass spectrometry to detect and quantitate ergot alkaloids from tissue samples.

Why is it important?

Ergot alkaloids are a class of naturally occurring compounds that can cause toxicosis in forage animals (e.g. cattle, horses, etc). Research to detect these compounds is necessary to develop treatment methods and improve animal health that can greatly impact the food chain.
