What is it about?

Large area graphene fi lms with varying growth time thicknesses were synthesized by chemical vapor deposition (CVD) on copper foil and transferred to other substrates for characterization and photovoltaic applications. Scanning tunneling microscopy, Raman spectroscopy, and imaging show fi lms with high crystallinity, low defect density, I 2D /I G ratio of 0.52 − 2.26, and the presence of continuous graphene sheets with optical transparency of 75.7% − 96.8%.

Why is it important?

The as-produced few-layer/multilayer graphene fi lms have been used as counter electrodes in place of platinum for the electrocatalysis of tri-iodide in DSSC with conversion e ffi ciency of about 3.1 − 3.9% and fi ll factor of 57.6% under one sun illumination of 100 mW cm− 2(AM 1.5)
