What is it about?
It is well known that uranium(VI) is photochemically reduced in the presence of alcohol, such as methanol. This paper clarified its underlying mechanism computationally. It demonstrated that the hydrogen-abstraction by photoexcited UO22+ is the key process.

Why is it important?
A photochemical reaction involving uranium usually destroys organic molecules, such as DNA. Therefore, this reaction may eventually be related to uranium toxicity.
