What is it about?

The metal dicarboxylate complexes of N-(4-Pyridylmethyl)-1,8-naphthalimide provides wide structural variations and provides avenues for studying coordination polymers with novel properties. The structures optical and magnetic properties of various metal complexes of divalent first row transition metal ions are studied. Pi-stacking has strong influence, based on this single chain molecular magnets is developed.

The rationalization of solid state optical properties of naphthalimide containing coordination polymers will serve as a plethora of advance materials. On the other hand identification of single molecular magnet properties from such system forecast a large future of these as magnetic materials.

Optical properties, magnetic properties as well as the wide ranges of structural patterns shown in the article will serve as guidelines to interpret many related examples in different scales and dimensions.
