What is it about?

Simple and energy efficient synthesis of cyclodextrin derivatives. Scalability is confirmed up to 5 g product.

Why is it important?

It is a scalable green technology where for the reaction no polluting solvents are required. The starting materials or the reagents are poorly soluble in classic organic solvents; DMF, DMA, DMSO, etc. should be used in classic solution syntheses. These polar solvents often contain their decomposition products which can react with the activated cyclodextrin resulting in hardly removable impurities.

Perspectives

Easier and more effective preparation of selectively 6-substituted cyclodextrin derivatives.
