Mechanism of Poliovirus Resistance to Host Phosphatidylinositol-4 Kinase III β Inhibitor

What is it about?

This study reveal the mechanism of poliovirus resistance to host PI4KB inhibitor. Poliovirus gained the resistance by enhancing the processing of a viral protein 3AB into 3A. Elevated level of 3A is essential to support the replication of poliovirus in the presence of PI4KB inhibitor.

Why is it important?

This is the first report on the mechanism of viral resistance to host PI4KB inhibition. In this study, the role of known resistance mutation was discovered and the proof-of-cocept experiments indicated that processing of 3AB is the determinant of the resistance.
