What is it about?

This paper demonstrates a facile hydrothermal treatment method that can turn electro deposited manganese dioxide nano sheets into crystalline core-shell nanocrystals. The treated electrode exhibited improved capacitance and rate handling ability.

Why is it important?

Manganese dioxide is a commonly used materials for pseudo-capacitors but its limited electrical conductivity is a major hurdle that impedes its excellent performance in capacity and rate handling performance. Reducing its electrical resistance will enable the feasibility of manganese dioxide for electrochemical energy storage.

Perspectives

The method reported in this paper is facile and efficient. It is expected to exert profound influence in the research field of lectrochemical energy storage.
