What is it about?

By tuning the heating rate of thermal oxidation of Zn foils it was possible to grow long ZnO nanowires on the ZnO surface and it was shown that oriented metallic Zn nano regions remains trapped in the ZnO foil.

Why is it important?

The synthesized material present a huge active surface due to the nanowires and a relative small resistivity due to the metallic Zn regions. This is an ideal material for gas sensors.

Perspectives

The technique used to characterize the material showed great potential to be applied in similar nanomaterials.
