What is it about?
Anions are negatively charged groups of atoms. In this work we show using structural and magnetic analysis that the size, shape and ability of the anion to connect structure together all impact the magnetic behaviour of the materials.

Why is it important?
Molecular materials are expected to be vital in the development of molecular electronics. This work helps better understand the relationship between structure and its magnetic properties and will aid in the design of future nanodevices.
Perspectives
This paper was a real challenge and we report for the first time 6 molecular magnetic switches that differ only in the anion, allowing real insight into how the anion impacts magnetic behaviour.
