What is it about?

In drug development, it is important to understand the stability properties of your drug and any other materials used to formulate the pill. Lactose in particular is a common filler and binder used in drug tabletting, and is therefore important to fully characterize. In this study, we investigate the products from different methods for generating amorphous lactose, and the effects that the processing methods have on the resulting structure and stability of the powder.

Why is it important?

Better stability for amorphous products means that a longer shelf life and improved drug dissolution can be obtained. We hope that by gaining a better understanding of the processing-structure-property relationship, we can use this insight for developing processing and quality control procedures for new drugs products.
