What is it about?
Pressure tuning is a successful method to peak swapping in chromatography. We have implemented pressure tuning in first dimension of comprehensive two dimensional gas chromatography. Two contrasting column sets were used with a junction pressure tuning point in between of them. By tuning the junction pressure the relative contribution of each column could be tuned to make system characteristics more likely to first or second column. This process allow to tune peak position and orthogonality of the comprehensive two dimensional gas chromatography without any dismalting and modification.

Why is it important?
Our result indicated that the pressure tuning could change the selectivity and orthogonality of comprehensive two dimensional gas chromatography system with change of the junction pressure. Thus, a rapid analysis of totally different type of sample could be conducted into one system with pressure tuning setup in between of two different stationary phases.
Perspectives
comprehensive two dimensional gas chromatography is most advances techniques for real complex sample analysis. The pressure tuning process for comprehensive two dimensional gas chromatography would extend the application to more sample by reducing time and resources.
