What is it about?

In situ chemical oxidation (ISCO) is a subsurface remediation approach. In this laboratory column study, we evaluated the effect of ISCO on PFAA contamination in the subsurface. Unfortunately, chemical oxidants were not able to degrade the PFAA compounds, but they did substantially affect their movement which could impact other remediation strategies (e.g., pump and treat remediation approaches).

Why is it important?

PFAA contamination is an issue that is affect millions of American drinking water, and is known to have both ecosystem and human health effects. It is important that we find effective ways to manage contaminated areas.
