What is it about?
Calcium is an important signaling molecule in the brain. It has been challenging to measure calcium activity at the subcellular level. Researchers developed a new tool which measures subcellular calcium activity in brain cells called astrocytes.

Why is it important?
This tool will enable researchers to study highly localized calcium activity in the brain cells which have tremendous applications in understanding how neurodegenerative diseases and substance use affects brain activity.
