What is it about?

Chokchai Suttawet reviewed the book entitled ‘The “bare life” of Thai migrant workmen in Singapore’ (2014) with his critical impression. This book was written by Pattana Kitiarsa, a former lecturer at Suranaree University, Thailand, and lately an assistant professor at the Department of Southeast Asian Studies at the National University of Singapore. The book has been published posthumously in honour of his significant contributions towards an understanding of contemporary Isan culture and the ongoing evolution of Thai society.

Why is it important?

Migrant workers around the world have been increasingly interesting not only economically but also in humanitarian meaning.

Perspectives

I think that learning migrant workers' lives help us understand their making of sacrifices and why we have to do more researches about them.
