What is it about?

The study investigates which adolescents repeat suicidal behaviour within 6 months of having attended the emergency department because of suicidal behaviour. Regression analysis revealed that a) having a family history of psychopathology, b) self-harming and c) having a diagnosis of personality disorder or maladaptive personality traits were all risk factors to repeat suicidal behaviour.

Why is it important?

It would help professionals working in the emergency department improve their decision making process when dealing with adolescents suicidal behaviour. The aim is to prevent that these patients repeat suicidal behaviour or commit suicide after being discharged from the hospital.

Perspectives

It has been a very rewarding challenge to carry out this work. I hope it brings some light to a problem that generates so much suffering.
