What is it about?
Biological invasion into the Mediterranean Sea is an important anion in biological systems. A large specimen of a female large-eyed rabbitfish, Hydrolagus mirabilis, (Collett,1904), known previously only from Eastern and Western Atlantic, was caught for the first time in the Syrian Marine Waters.

Why is it important?
Our findings show the presence of an Eastern and Western Atlantic fish species for the first time in the Syrian marine waters. Thus, the fish biodiversity in the Mediterranean Sea could be affected or positively either negatively.
Perspectives
Indeed, data on the geographic distribution of this species and others of the same family, is based primarily on fishing records and more comprehensive sampling in deep waters will be needed to establish a complete picture of the geographic range for most species.
