What is it about?

This paper proposes a new method for accurately measuring the level of women's political leadership in any given country. We apply this women's political leadership index (WPLI) to the Asian region to show its usefulness, but the same approach can be used in any other country or region.

Why is it important?

While the study of women's political leadership is a growing field, there is no standardized approach to measuring this phenomenon. The Women's Political Leadership Index (WPLI) attempts to fill that gap by proposing a straightforward way of measuring the degree of women's leadership in a given country or region that can be easily utilized by other researchers.

Perspectives

My hope is that the women's political leadership index (WPLI) proposed in this article will be a useful tool for other political scientists, feminists, sociologists, gender studies experts, or anyone else interested in the impact and importance of women's leadership in politics. The index was designed to be applicable to any country or region in the world and will hopefully help inspire further research on women's political leadership.
