What is it about?
We developed and carried out an implementation strategy for IPOS in acute care settings. The strategy included information, training, and facilitation to support healthcare staff to use IPOS. We tested the strategy at three acute care units and at a palliative care unit.

Why is it important?
Use of patient-reported outcome measures such as IPOS have shown positive effects for patients in need of palliative care, but little is known about how to implement them, particularly in acute care settings. A huge variation of completed IPOS in patients health records imply that the strategy was not feasible enough to fully support implementation of IPOS. Our results highlights the need for further research on implementation of PROMs, such as IPOS.
Perspectives
Since many deaths occur in hospitals, the work with development and quality improvement of palliative care in acute care settings is important. Because the focus of acute care is to cure, it is also a challenging research area.
