Which technology should be chosen for the radiotherapy of chest wall in Ca breast patients

Why is it important?

Due to the popularity of IMRT in recent days most of practitioners blindly select the IMRT technique for radiotherapy of every site considering that IMRT is superior than 3DCRT. This study explains that IMRT is not always superior than 3DCRT and it all depends on the site and case type. In the case of chest wall irradiation in many of the cases 3DCRT has been found comparable with IMRT. For more detailed discussion the full article must be read for better explanation.

Perspectives

In the case of chest wall irradiation, one should make both kind of plans i.e, 3DCRT as well as IMRT, and if 3DCRT dosimetric results are better or comparable with the results of IMRT then 3DCRT plan should be chosen fir the treatment. In many of the cases 3DCRT is found equal anf even better than IMRT, however it doesn't found always. So, plan technique for the treatment should be chosen after comparing the dosimetric results of both the techniques.
