What is it about?

A point-in-time collection and analysis of data on what Irish teenagers are consuming to gain insight into whether trends have changed and a nationally representative survey should be implemented.

Why is it important?

Beverage consumption in Irish adolescents hasn't been assessed in a decade. Many social and environmental changes have occurred in this time and it is vital to obtain up to date data on dietary trends to guide policies and future interventions.

Perspectives

I feel this piece of work is hugely beneficial to public health nutritionists and policy makers alike. This analysis indicates a change in beverage consumption that should be followed up in a large scale national survey including dietary consumption data collection. A difference in consumption between students from private and DEIS school were apparent and results need to be appreciated when considering interventions and policies in the future.
