What is it about?
In 2010 the Liguria Regional Government implanted a collaborative program aimed at promoting ACHD patients access to highly specialized care and optimizing quality of management and intervention. This study reports our initial surgical activity outcome in ACHD patients illustrating clinical and anatomical characteristics frequently of high surgical complexity.

Why is it important?
The population of Adults with complex congenital heart disease is continuously growing and cases of high surgical complexity are becoming more and more frequent. Proper management of this population by highly specialized centres with physicians having specific competence in this field is associated with better outcome and reduced mortality.
Perspectives
It was a great pleasure being a part of this innovative collaborative program for the management of adult with congenita heart disease, a growing fascinating sector in cardiology and cardiac surgery. I think our results are very satisfying and should be the trigger for continuous collaborative work to guarantee better outcome to these relatively young patients. I want to add a special acknowledgment to Prof. Chierchia who unfortunately left us during the final steps of publication. Beyond his fondamental contribute to this study, I lost a mentor a dear colleague and a friend.
