Why is it important?

Diaphragm ultrasound is a simple non invasive tool, it can be performed by trained intensivists. Ultrasound allows early detection of diaphragmatic dysfunction in post operative cardiac children, which may have positive potentials on morbidity after pediatric cardiac surgery.

Perspectives

We believe that diaphragm ultrasound is becoming an indispensible tool in critcal care post pediatric cardiac surgery. This tool can be learned by an intensivist. We review in this article diaphragm Ultrasound technique and we propose a simple alghorythm to guide intensivist in approach a child with diaphragmatic dysfunction post cardiac surgery.
