What is it about?

Specimens of a widespread wild ginger in the Himalayas are sufficiently different from the rest that they can be described as a new species.

Why is it important?

There is no list of all the wild gingers in existence in the world so we haven't yet got the information we need to conserve them for future generations.

Perspectives

This work shows that the subject of taxonomy is neither long-completed nor long-dead. In fact, it's a vital area of research which is exciting to do and leads immediately to useful results.
