What is it about?

This essay discusses the many constitutions in the Americas from the founding of the United States to the early decades of the nineteenth century. The U.S. Constitution was not alone in creating a culture of written constitutions. Several other constitutions from Spain, France, Haiti, and the separates states of the United States were also important and represent a broader trend in creating constitutional states.
