What is it about?
In this paper we present a new database created via a survey of the most popular books for children aged 0-36 months. The database is available to researchers (and others) who want to know which books are being read to young children.

Why is it important?
Many researchers are interested in the content of children's books; books can provide a lot of input for learning language, cultural norms, etc., but we haven't had a really good sense of which books children are actually being exposed to (and so which books researchers should be analysing). This dataset provides that information.
Perspectives
We conducted the survey because we were interested in whether a particular kind of information occurs in children's books, but we didn't know which books to analyse. We realized that we were not the only researchers who faced this problem, and so decided to share the data with others.
