What is it about?

This book contains the first minimalist analysis of unaccusatives in Spanish, and probably one of the first in English. It uses the feature strength theory to compare the syntax of unaccusative verbs in both languages. It also proves through some experiments that the empty category in Spanish affects processing in a way that is absent in English.

Why is it important?

It is one of the first comparative/cross-linguistic analysis of a construction under the Minimalist framework.

Perspectives

The description of the minimalist framework contained in the book is very appropriate for use in linguistic classes, since it constitutes a clear and concise summary of a complex theory.
