What is it about?
Googoosh is the most important Iranian female pop diva of the twentieth and now twenty-first centuries. This article explores her career from child star to pop singer to her silence following the revolution and her eventual self-exile in Southern California. The article explores Googoosh as an object of nostalgia for Iran before the Islamic Republic as it examines the many different kinds of feminine-national roles the celebrity has adopted over the years.
