What is it about?

Exposure to traumatic Events ist associated with increased renin Levels. In subjects also suffering from PTSD, renin Levels are even higher. After correction for the number of Traumas, PTSD was still associated with increased renin Levels compared to subjects without PTSD

Why is it important?

It can help to explain the association of Trauma with physical diseases and particularly CVD. It also suggests that PTSD is associated with specific neuroendocrine alterations. Moreover, increased renin Levels may also represent a risk factor for developing PTSD after traumatization.

Perspectives

Our findings add to growing evidence for a crucial role of the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone-system in the pathophysiology of PTSD
