What is it about?

The word addiction has undergone change in its connotation. Addiction , is now considered a disease. Historically , that is until about the early 19th century the term connoted propensity or preference for certain substances or acts.

Why is it important?

The United States is now dealing with a major opioid crisis. It is time now to take a look at what it means to be addicted from a historical perspective.

Perspectives

I have been troubled by how frequently terms such as disease ,addict and sick are used pejoratively in political discourse ,especially in the United States under the current leadership.
