What is it about?

An adhesin and a cysteine protease form the EhCPADH complex of E. histolytica. Genes coding for these proteins are adjacent in the parasite genome suggesting a co-regulation of their expression. By diminishing the expression of each component we demonstrated that their expression is co-regulated. In addition, the inhibition of the expression of each element of the complex negatively affected the parasite virulence, confirming that EhCPADH has an important role in the pathogenicity of E. histolytica.

Why is it important?

Our finding showed by first time the expression co-regulation in E. histolytica and demonstrated that the EhADHCP complex participates in the pathogenicity of this parasite

Perspectives

This work open the possibility to study the molecular mechanisms involved in the expression of proteins involved in the parasite pathogenicity and, eventually block them to avoid this parasitosis
