Why is it important?
This is the first training workshop on otters in China and it brought together 33 people working in wetlands in China and Nepal. Techniques were discussed and a Chinese Otter Network was formed to develop work in China. Otters are a huge part of the illegal fur trade - for every tiger skin found there are at least 10 otter skins and one haul in Tibet had 778 otter skins. China is an important country in this trade and it is vital to have trained people working with communities and carrying out research in order to reduce it.
