What is it about?

The book has three parts: 1. Special characteristics including origins, taxonomy, anatomical features and pellets 2. Species descriptions of the 17 species describing in detail, outlook, field identification, voices, behaviour, food, breeding and distribution with maps 3. Ecological relationships largely concerning the intraguild aggressions and interactions between owls and their prey In addition, the book has 8 colour plates by Ian Willis and numerous of line drawings and over 70 photos.

Why is it important?

This is obviously one of the most detailed books on European owls including wide variety of cited papers of several languages.

Perspectives

This book is a layman version of the author's Ph.D. work and includes most of his own lifetime owl research results.
