This article provides a summary of when we consume energy at different parts of the globe and sets directions for future research in the area of chrono-nutrition.

Why is it important?

We know that our bodies follow a natural circadian rhythm and that different physiological processes are influenced by the internal body clock and external cues. However, to date, there are few observational studies that have investigated how the time of energy intake differs in different regions of the world. Understanding the different patterns of eating is important in order to forward our understanding of how time-of-day of eating could influence health.
