What is it about?

Human diets are directly related to numerous environmental problems. We tried to calculate the impact on CO2 eq. generation of two diffrent types of diet for a typical family in Greece. The first diet was based on the Mediterranean diet guidelines and the second diet was created to mimic a more Western type of diet.

Why is it important?

Our findings show the type of diet has a significant effect on the generation of CO2 eq. When energy intesive practices, such as heated grenhouses from fossil fuels, are utilised for the agricultural production of vegetables and fruits, the CO2 eq. impact of the Mediterranean diet is higher, contrary to our expectations.
