What is it about?

The Epistle to Hebrews widely use the language of purity to describe the action of Jesus Christ. This article argues that purity is an image for the moral reality of sin, and the solution is the ransoming sacrifice of Jesus Christ. This is set against a view of David M. Moffitt, who sees purity and impurity as images for life and death, and Jesus action as bringing an immortal human life in heaven.

Why is it important?

The issue of how Jesus death and resurrection is central in the christian faith. A long held view sees Jesus death as a substitution for the death men deserved. This view is widely attacked nowadays, and Hebrews is sometimes used to promote other views. This article shows how the categories of Hebrews actually express a substitution-based view.
