What is it about?

We investigated the distribution and body size of a snailfish. They move to deeper waters in summer, and come back to shallow waters in late autumn for their winter spawning. We also discussed their predation on age-0 Japanese flounder, a target species for stock enhancement.

Why is it important?

This is the first study to show the seasonal inshore-offshore migration of snailfish. They are annual fish (1-yr life span) and grow rapidly. Their life history is unique and a good example for studying the seasonal bathymetric movement.
