Why is it important?

The age and size structure of marine species are some of the most important parameters for a good management of a commercially exploited population. This study presents the lifespan of different groups of squid simultaneously exploited during different seasons in southern Brazil. How long does it take to reach maturity? Are big squids older? When is the principal hatching season? These questions can only be solved with information about age estimations.
