What is it about?

Charles Taylor has written a book on his language philosophy. This book brings together his thoughts on the subject from many publications over a long span of time and develops them further. The introduction offers a systematic overview over the book and over the following comments on the book.

Why is it important?

The book symposium on "The Language Animal" was the first, which was held on this book. But more importantly it was held together with Charles Taylor. His replies to the comments on his book are included in this special issue.

Perspectives

It was a great pleasure to discuss "The Language Animal" with all discussants and the author Charles Taylor at the Max-Weber-Kolleg in Erfurt. Last but really not least it was again a great pleasure to collaborate with Ulf Bohmann. It made me understand the role of language philosophy in Taylors philosophy in greater depth.
