What is it about?

Fish oil and soy decreased blood pressure in patients with metabolic syndrome. The mechanisms by which this happenn is expalained. In summary, there was an uncrease of an antiinflammatory substance (cytokine) named adiponectin. Adiponectin induces the production of nitric oxide which is a vasodilator that may decrease blood pressure.

Why is it important?

Hypertension has a high prevalence in all countries (25%) and contributes to the morbidity and mortality of the patients. Fish oil and soy was added to the usual medication which the patients were using. In this study, we showed an improvement of blood pressure with the natural products we used, but also explained one of the important reason why it occurred.

Perspectives

We thik that that is a good rationale for soy and fish in the habitual diet of the populations as well as for patients with metabolic diseases.
